I exist, but more than that, I have a purpose and people who love me, need me. I desire, for myself and those I love, contentment, spiritual blessing, and peace within the storms. I hope I’ll be missed when this time on earth is over, missed for my smile, my silly love of puns, for arms that hug, hands that dry tears, ear to hear the venting of frustrations. But, let the remembrance bring a smile and the tears be few, don’t mourn, just remember me. I believe and I trust in God. I’ve whittled my theology down to just this; that God is. He is completely other and yet human. I will live for Him. I let go of the past hurts and disappointments, not forgetting them, but grateful for the lessons they have taught. I’m stronger, a little wiser and looking forward. I love my life. I see it as the grace of God. I am prepared to die but not yet ready. I have too few days left to squander on what ifs or surrender to despair. There are poems yet to be written, songs to be sung, springs yet to be sprung and breath yet to be breathed.

Oh, the gift of life
let me have lived with honor
my gift back to You

  1. ‘I let go of the past hurts and disappointments, not forgetting them, but grateful for the lessons they have taught. I’m stronger, a little wiser and looking forward.’

These are very wise word – as I am going through a difficult period with a particular person…who refuses to recognize my memories or the lessons I have learned. All of what was helps us to move forward, hopefully looking more in positive directions 🙂

I am honored to travel with you. And all the poems that have been and are still waiting to be written.

  3. This is absolutely incredible writing, Debi ❤️ such a sense of peace and calm in this poem. Especially love ” I let go of the past hurts and disappointments, not forgetting them, but grateful for the lessons they have taught. I’m stronger, a little wiser and looking forward. I love my life.” Beautifully penned.❤️

  4. This is nicely written, Debi. I am reminded of “Blessed are the meek …”
I could adopt it as mine, as I also have pretty well come to your viewpoint. I tell people that I have done everything in this life that I feel I need to do. Some think it morbid, but it’s fine with me.
BTW, thank you for your nice comment on my “train poem/song.” I have left it for Tuesday Platform hoping to share it with more.

  5. Wonderful inspiring words. I am not ready to go yet either… there is love on this Earth of ours if we only seek to find it, And readily give it.
    Kind regards
