adashofsunny Prompt Nights – Summer sets upon earth’s bosom bare Sanaa Rizva

Summer sits restlessly on the city
shimmers from concrete sidewalks
in undulating waves of mirage
horns blare, tempers flare, eyes glare
behind the Ray-Bans at the sun
burning relentlessly in a cloudless sky
fans whirr, air conditioners blast
in shops tempting the sticky masses
hurrying past as the summer sits,
squirms, settles, sautés the city.

Yeah, I know summer in the city too well, with tempers flaring 🙂 Your poem reminds me of summer in my second home down in the Southern hemisphere; scorching is the word 😀

  7. My summers have been mostly spent in the suburbs, and rather rural-ish suburbs especially in my adult years. But you really created a terrific feel with this so I can feel like I’ve been immersed in a city’s summer.
