I don’t understand the words you say
and you can’t understand mine
it is so vexing to be in the dark
no light of comprehension, no sign
no pointing or gestures clear the way
for us plainly a way to convey…
then as I turn to go, a little bit dismayed
you smile at me so sweet, so shy
I give you a smile right back
and we hug a friendly goodbye.
